Travel Details

Itinerary:

Our journey begins with a shuttle from Auburn to Soda Springs, near the crest of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. See map

Initially, we'll head nearly due South, along fireroads and trails towards Lyon Ridge, where we connect with the Western States Trail and then head West to Robinson Flat, our first overnight camp.

Continuing on the Western States Trail, we will reach Michigan Bluff the second day and camp overnight. See map

On the third day, we'll follow the Western States Trail until Rucky Chucky and then climb to our final destination at White Oak Flat, about seventy miles in all from the start. See map

We'll enjoy a celebration dinner at White Oak, and then our shuttle service will return us to Auburn.

Meeting Place:

We'll be leaving Auburn on Friday, August (tba) at 7:00am. Our buses will depart from the See map Elm Plaza Shopping Center parking lot (near Starbuck's) on Elm Street in Auburn. Cars may be left here for the duration of the trip. Please allow yourself sufficient time on Friday morning to deliver all your camping and personal items. These packed items will not be accessible during the day.

Camping:

We have pre-arranged campsites at both Robinson's Flat and Michigan Bluff. Each night we'll setup a central kitchen and campfire area. Toilet facilities will be provided. In addition, we'll prepare individual hot water shower facilities for our guests. Your personal camping and clothing gear will be trucked into camp each afternoon. Suitable overnight camping spots will be identified upon your arrival at camp each afternoon.

Meals:

A delicious and hearty hot meal will be served for breakfast and dinner at each of our campsites. We strive to serve well-balanced meals made up of high quality fresh meats, fruits and vegetables. Our fabulous cowboy coffee will awaken both your mind and body each morning while our special Dutch oven baked treats will send you off to sleep each night feeling completely nourished. During the day, a rest stop will be set up to provide you with great tasting lunch and plenty of snacks to take along on the trails with you. If you have special dietary requirements or are celebrating a special event during the trip, please let us know in advance.

Drinks:

We'll provide plenty of ice cold water and energy drinks during the day. In addition, we'll serve fruit juices at breakfast, and at dinner, we will have soda, beer and wine available. If you bring beverages of your own, please use unbreakable containers whenever possible (beer and soda in cans; juices and wine in plastic bottles.)

Weather:

Our first day and evening will be spent at elevations higher than 6,800 feet above sea level. Daily average temperature will be near 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Evening temperatures can often dip into the low 40's. As we move into lower elevations and the deep canyons, daily temperatures will climb significantly, sometimes into the high 90's and low 100's. Evening temperatures on the second evening should be in the 60's. Please keep in mind that the sun's intensity can be quite high and that the use of ample shade clothing and sunscreen is strongly recommended. Periodically during the summer months, the High Sierra's may experience an afternoon thundershower.
